Basic to Intermediate Weaving

Tuesday January 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st, 5:30-8:00 p.m.

Beginners will start weaving a scarf on pre-warped Rigid Heddle Looms. Intermediates will begin with project planning on a project of their choice. Students will learn terminology, equipment, project planning, reading drafts (patterns), and basic weaving techniques. Students who continue through the entire month of January will have the opportunity to work on at least four different types of looms and at least three different projects. Looms will be available in between classes for students to work on during normal business hours including Saturdays. Class will run from 5:30-8:00 each Tuesday evening for $15 per night plus materials. Space is limited so please call to reserve.
 
Knooking - Saturday, February 11th

9:00-noon and 1:00-4:00 p.m.

The Knook - now you can knit with a crochet hook. The morning will focus on learning to knook. Stay for the afternoon and learn more advanced techniques like cables. Fee will be $15 for the class and the Knook Beginner Set.
 
 

The Fiber Factor, each Tuesday evening, 5:30 -8:00.

The store will be open 5:30-8:00 each Tuesday offering a come and go project, with the project taking about an hour. Standard fee is $15, plus an additional materials fee for select classes. Projects can be viewed in advance online or in the store window.

Become a Fiber Fanatic, the more you participate, the more you earn (includes classes and material purchases). Specials will also be offered for the Fiber Fanatic.

Sept 6 – Felted Postcard

Mail it to a friend, inviting them to come to Fiber Factor with you. If they bring the postcard when they come with you, you will get that night’s class free and they will receive 10% off their class fee.

Sept 13 – Needle Felted Jewelry

Learn more felting techniques as we make beads, pendants, flowers and more.

Sept 20 – Wet Felted Coozy or Vase

Expand your felting horizons as we create vessels – keep your cola cool or your coffee hot. Learn to shape dimensional felt.

Sept 27 – Sheer Felted Scarf

Sheer and gauzy and completely your creation – you will enjoy wearing your wool/silk scarf through the cooler months that are just around the corner.

October is Lace Month at The Shepherd’s Mill. Learn the intricacies of Bobbin Lace during Fiber Factor Tuesdays Oct 4, 11 & 25. Bobbin Lace is an age old woven lace using wooden bobbins to manipulate the threads. If you are a puzzle person, you’ll love Bobbin Lace. While learning techniques, we will not necessarily finish a project in an evening.

Oct 18 – Basket Weaving

Basketweaving at the Fiber Factor. Come & Go. Leave with a 7” Napkin Basket ready for holiday entertaining.

Nov 1 – Felt a Santa, Gift a Gnome

Fiber Factor November 1st Felt a Santa, Gift a Gnome. Using a felting needle, we will sculpt a Santa ornament or a gnome perfect for holiday giving. 5:30 – 8:00 pm, Come and Go, $15.

November 8: Cards from a Creative Spirit

Needle felt a card or gift tag using creative designs.
 

November 15: Stitch a Stocking

Beginning loom knitting. The ornament sized stocking is perfect for hanging a monetary gift on the tree.
 

November 22: Honey of a Hotpad

Locker hooking is a simple technique to hook loops of wool roving or fabric strips through a canvas backing. Come learn the technique by creating a hotpad. (photo from Hook, Loop, ‘N’ Lock by Theresa Pulio)
 

November 29: Dye a Tie

Fun, quick, and easy. Using sharpie markers and rubbing alcohol we will paint colorful designs on silk ties.
