Quality output from our
mill is directly related to the fiber quality coming in. You can insure a
better quality product with less loss through the mill by performing a few
simple steps.
-
Remove all manure tags
and dung.
-
Remove burrs and all
vegetable matter that is longer or bigger than your thumb nail. Small
vegetation can be pulled out in the fiber separator but your loss
percentage will increase. Picking small vegetable matter from your
fleeces is time consuming and it may be more cost effective for you to
allow us to run the fleece through the fiber separator.
-
Shaking fleece can help
remove vegetable matter and dirt.
-
Check fleece strength
and look for second cuts. Breakage and second cuts can cause noiling in
the roving and lumps in the yarn. Our fiber separator can help remove
these but does cause more loss through the processing.
-
Check staple length of
the fiber. Fiber longer than 6” when stretched will need to be cut before
it can be spun. We can cut it for you but we do charge an additional fee
for cutting your fiber.
-
We reserve the right to
refuse fleeces that have not been properly prepared for the mill. We must
protect the investment of our equipment and consider the time it takes
away from other customers’ orders in the mill. We will skirt fleeces for
you but charge an additional fee for doing so.
-
You may wish to prewash
wool before sending it to the mill. Our prices include washing as we
prefer to be in control of what has been used on the fiber as it starts
through the mill. Prewashing sheep’s wool does save you weight loss in
the mill, however.
We reserve the right to
refuse fleeces with excessive amounts of vegetable matter or any other
problem that would prohibit quality processing. This is necessary not only
to protect our equipment investment, but also to protect you, our customer,
from paying for processing that will only leave you disappointed with the
end product.
We are adamant in our
concern for our customers and want to assure the best quality output from
your input.
