Weavers Conference Yarn
The Shepherd’s Mill
was honored to be asked to create a special yarn
for the 2013 Midwest Weavers “Prairie Winds”
Conference. Of course, we knew the yarn would
have to be alpaca and were blessed to have the
support of many Kansas alpaca producers. Some
were able to contribute to the prototype, others
have committed portions of their 2012 clip to
keep stock flowing. The alpaca was blended with
dyed fine merino to provide additional bounce
and the wonderful colors of Kansas.
We are excited to present our “Prairie Winds”
conference yarn and hope you will enjoy creating
something special for the conference exhibit.
represents the fields of Kansas Wheat ready for
harvest but also the beauty of the tall grass
prairie as it stands through the winter. To get
the beautiful golden color, this yarn is 60%
alpaca and 40% fine merino.
represents the ever-changing Kansas sky. From
lazy floating clouds to the pure bright blue of
a perfect summer day to the dark navy of summer
storms; this yarn is 70% alpaca and 30% fine
The yarn is 1500-1600 ypp and is available in a
300 yard skein or a 1 lb cone. We also have
roving from each yarn available by the ounce for
handspinners and felters.
